Tree Of Life Engraved Bourbon Barrel Head

The Tree of Life holds a special place in my heart. The roots and branches always remind me to be connected; To remember that all things are linked. I love how this applies to these beautiful, authentic Bourbon Barrel Heads. The upcycling of these barrels, joined with the idea of family and love brings everything full circle. We have included a fine tipped sharpie so names can be added to the branches and roots creating a unique family tree.

We use barrel heads from Kentucky distilleries including Maker's Mark and Jim Beam. Not all "Heads" get stamped but more often these stamps are illegible. We use these heads for all our engraving listings. While the surface patena is planed and sanded off to allow for the engraving, the edges are left more natural. Some of the wax used to seal the bourbon in the barrels remains. The barrels were charred as part of the bourbon aging process. We have removed all the excess from the back of the barrel and sanded and sealed them smooth. No char will mar your walls or surfaces. All heads are sealed with 3 coats of polyurethane, front and back.

The authenticity of these heads is evident in the small gaps and mild warping. This is part of the beautiful nature of these creations. A finish ply has been attached to the back to support the head from further warping and separation.

This listing is offered as either a Wall Hanging or as a Lazy Susan. The benefit of the Lazy Susan is it's dual use. The mechanism allows for it to be hung on a wall or used on a table top.

Each piece starts by sanding the back to remove the heavy char.
Each stave or head is inspected for damage or cracks.
We carefully clean each one with water and a wire brush to remove any dirt and debris but retain the authentic aged patina.

After cleaning and gluing (if item requires), we sand all the edges with 600 grit to make smooth.
We hand rub 3 coats of food-safe polyurethane for longevity. We have moved on from oiling as it wears off with use and decreases the longevity of the wood.

All products are then carefully wrapped and await shipping.

Each authentic Kentucky bourbon barrel comes direct from one of the many distilleries that surround us, including Jim Beam, Maker's Mark and Jack Daniels. The charm in all of our barrel products is no two are ever exactly the same. The patina of use and age infuses each one, making them a unique statement of our American history and culture.
